In 2024, the area burned by wildfires in Portugal was approximately 96.8% higher than the average of the previous six years. As a result, more than 690,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide were released into the atmosphere, numerous properties were lost, and many people were left homeless. Portugal is burning more and more each year.
, a project from ISLA (Polytechnic Institute of Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal), is one of those selected by a global jury to receive support from Santander X Explorer in order to launch a crowdfunding campaign… which has just gone live.
The platform, designed as a dashboard, aims to innovate in wildfire monitoring and prevention by integrating decision-support metrics, eco-friendly sensors, artificial intelligence, and real-time monitoring.
