Viejo Tesoro (Pontifical Catholic University of Peru) is one of the projects selected to launch its crowdfunding campaign with the training and support of Santander X Explorer. This idea, linked to the 2030 SDGs, was born to tackle food misinformation affecting 17.6 million Peruvians and to promote nutritious options. It is aligned with SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
The project combines artificial intelligence, nutrition and Peru’s biodiversity to reformulate industrial food products, enhancing their value with Andean superfoods such as quinoa, cacao, maca and camu camu, without compromising on flavour or sustainability. Its AI-based platform, APU, helps companies create healthier and more functional products while supporting small local producers. The MVP, Muyukallpa, is a protein snack (40 g per serving) with 10 vitamins and 8 minerals, free from additives and packaged in compostable wrapping – ideal for students and athletes.

APU allows us to rethink formulas in order to nourish both the consumer and the environment,” explains Aarón Nolasco, founder and CEO. “We want to be that old treasure which inspires purposeful products that truly nourish,” adds Ronald Bardales, CMO. “We also want this project to be the right hand of Peruvian companies in their transition towards** functional foods that strengthen communities**,” says** Eduardo Herrera, founder and COO.**
